Hello & Welcome to Chemistry!               Chemistry Schedule &                                                                                Course  Description

My name is Diane Hubbard and I have been teaching high school chemistry for over 34 years.  I have been teaching for this length of time  because I love what I do.  I enjoy working with my students and I am passionate about education and chemistry.

I love O'Connor high school!  As a matter of fact my two children, Katherine and Brian graduated from OC in 2018 and 2020.  My son is currently a cadet at the United States Air Force Academy and my daughter will be attending nursing school this year.  My daughter ran track at PVCC and my son is currently a decathalete at USAFA.I miss having my children at home but fortunately I am able to spend time with your children (and between you and I, they are the best part of the job)!

I have always been drawn to science.  I started my career as a fisheries biologist where I spent months out on the Bering Sea on a Japanese trawler, on the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon with AZ Game and Fish and even on the rim of the Canyon watching Big Horn sheep (you can ask me about this later)!  As you can see, these were interesting jobs but I longed to be around people and that is when I decided to go back to school for my teaching certification.  I have never regretted it!

Even after 34 years the excitment of the first day of school is always there and I am thriled to get to know all of you this year!

Chemistry is a math based lab class that will cover the composition of materials.  Areas covered include the basic structure of atoms,  how atoms combine to produce molecules, and how symbols and formulas are used to write chemical equations and predict quantity of product and reactants produced or reacted.  A strong background in Algebra 1-2 is a requirement for chemistry.

Chemistry may be a challenge for some.  I encourage my students to persevere.  I believe in my students and will be available to assist them as they work through the curriculum.
