HEARING AND VISION IMPAIRED

  • Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing

    Teachers of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TOD/HH) provide specialized instruction to deaf and hard of hearing students who meet the qualifications for Hearing Impairment. These teachers supplement language and vocabulary to provide auditory training. The Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing also teaches the students self-advocacy and awareness of his/her hearing loss.

     

    Itinerant Teacher for the Visually Impaired

    Visually impaired services are a special education service or related service, as defined by Federal Regulations of IDEA 2004. Visually impaired services may be provided to a student who qualifies with an identified visual impairment and whose progress in the general education curriculum is impacted by his/her visual impairment.

     

    Sign Language Interpreters

    Sign Language Interpreters facilitate communication for academics and extracurricular activities. An interpreter is provided for deaf/hard of hearing students whose primary language is American Sign Language or who require the support of sign language as stated in the IEP.

     

    The Low Vision Department

    Certified Teachers of the Visually Impaired (CTVI's) provide specialized educational services to children of all abilities. These children experience vision loss due to a variety of factors, such as: congenital defects, eye diseases, neurological disorders, or injuries to the eye.
