We
have been continuing to monitor the indoor air quality of the Terramar
Elementary School. We have witnessed reduced humidity levels in the academic
building, especially in the Art Classroom, after we applied a sealant on this
polished concrete floor. We also carpeted the polished concrete sections of the
kindergarten and preschool classrooms (although this will get replaced to be the
correct color/pattern to match the existing carpet). Humidity levels have been
fluctuating at desirable levels around 35% (sometimes as high as 50%, depending
on the weather). We did discover a damaged roof drain pipe in the kindergarten
playground area that has since been repaired along with the drainage pipe being
cleaned out. We have replaced one damaged window in the academic building and
resealed some of the windows known to leak to learn what might be causing the
occasional water intrusion we get during certain wind-driven rains. We will
continue to reseal all other windows that have leaked and/or show signs of not
being sealed correctly as well as resealing any other portions of the building
where we can identify water intrusion occurs. And finally, we have been in
contact with the Educational Facilities Clearinghouse (EFC) and they have
provided us with assistance and suggestions for how to address some of the
issues we have been contending with at Terramar Elementary School. We have
benefited from their expertise and knowledge and will continue to use the EFC as
a resource as we continue to monitor the indoor air quality at this
school.
