Welcome to Mrs. Erickson's AP Literature, 3-4H and Academic Decathlon Site!

AP English Literature & Composition will engage students in the careful reading and critical analysis of imaginative literature. Through the close reading of selected texts, students will deepen their understanding of the ways writers use language to provide both meaning and pleasure for their readers.

Academic Decathlon is an honors elective course that is aligned with district and state standards and supports the school wide efforts in increasing student achievement. Like its ancient Greek counterpart, consists of ten events. However, this is an academic, rather than an athletic, competition and a team competition as well as one for individuals. In a typical day long Decathlon, high school students are tested in seven areas: economics, art, language and literature, mathematics, music, science and Super Quiz. In addition, students amass points in three communication events: the prepared and impromptu speech event, the oral interview and essay writing events. This year’s theme for all ten events is WWII.

English 3-4 Honors English 3-4 Honors is an introduction to world literature. Students will be exposed to a variety of work from European, American, Latin American, Asian, Russian and African authors as well as the history and philosophies that influenced those authors. Students will examine and apply composition formats to real life experiences. Language, vocabulary, writing, speaking, and listening activities will be integrated throughout the course of study. English 3-4H is aligned with district and state standards and supports the school-wide effort to increase student achievement.
