Hello, I'm Ms. J and I am the 8th grade ELA teacher at Canyon Springs STEM Academy for 3 years. I have previously taught ELA for 6 years at Middle and High Schools in Colorado as well as Arizona. My husband and 3 sons are all native Arizonans. I've only been in Arizona since I was a year old. My husband and I grew up in Prescott, AZ and graduated from Prescott High School. After P.H.S. I went to Yavapai College for two years and finished my degree at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO. I have a B.A. in English Education with a secondary teaching certificate, meaning I can teach 6-12th grade.
I have lived in Colorado, Minnesota, New Jersey and Arizona. All those places are beautiful, but AZ has the best sunsets! I love reading, karaoke, a good cup of coffee, being with my family, concerts, podcasts, and hanging out with my dog, named Scout after To Kill a Mockingbird.
I am excited about being on a journey with my students this year! We are going to have an excellent year full of exploring ideas, developing a greater love for literature, working on our writing skills, and seeking answers to interesting questions. As Maya Angelou said, "You can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."
