Hi STEAM friends!
My name is Mrs. Felzke and I am excited about beginning the 2023-24 school year at Las Brisas as your STEAM teacher!
My Teaching Adventures:
After receiving my Bachelors of Fine Arts and Masters in Educational Leadership at ASU, I taught Visual Fine Arts at the high school level for 5 years. I taught the following courses: Ceramics, Intro to Art, 3-D Concepts, Drawing, and Painting. I incorporated science, math, and technology in my lessons to provide my students with a well-rounded educational experience. My favorite to teach by far was courses that contained 3-D mediums!
I also was a mentor for foster care children through Free Arts of Arizona. It was here that I found a love of teaching growth mindset, mindfulness, and self-confidence through the arts.
During the summer months, I lead STEAM tours for children as a Docent at Phoenix Art Museum. I love listening to all of the creative solutions the students share to my open-ended questions about the artwork.
My Teaching Style:
My teaching style is inquiry-based hands-on learning. Inquiry-based learning is about sparking curiosity and fostering critical thinking skills that ignite a student's passion and excitement that builds a love of learning that will last a lifetime!
About Me:
My husband and I have three wonderful children and a sweet mini blue heeler. We love to travel to explore other cultures, food, historical sites, art, museums, and nature. We often fill our weekends with hiking, swimming, science and art projects, reading, watching movies, and playing games.
I am looking forward to a STEAMazing year of hands-on innovation fun with the Las Brisas Owls!
