Meet the teacher

Dear parents and students,

My name is Meiyan(Juliet) Ma. My students call me Ma laoshi. This is the third year I have returned to work after being a homestay mother for three years. I am so grateful that I can join our excellent Kindergarten team again with Mrs. Newell and Mrs. Tapp.

I worked at Gavilan Peak from 2014 to 2018, teaching K-8 specials, 4/5th grade Mandarin immersion, Mandarin 1-2 and Kindergarten. I got a bachelor's and a master's degree in China and soon became a teacher in an institute in Beijing. I hold an Arizona Elementary teaching certificate with Early childhood and SEI endorsements.

My husband, Mr. Yao also teaches second grade here at GP. Our son, Yi Yao (Esrar), will be 5 years old this September, and he will be ready for kindergarten next year. It's very exciting! In our spare time, we enjoy swimming, traveling and watching movies.

I look forward to working with you and your children. It will be a wonderful year filled with fun, not to mention an incredible year of change. Thank you for entrusting me with your most precious possession.
