Mrs. Gustafson

Dear Families,

I am writing to welcome you and your student to my learning center. I am thrilled to be working here at Mountain Shadows. This truly is an amazing school and my home away from home! I am super excited to be working with you and your child to ensure a successful and memorable year.

I graduated from Arizona State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary and Special Education. I started teaching in 2013. My experience with teaching has been in general education and special education classrooms for grades 1st through 8th grade. In addition to teaching, I was also an instructional assistant in a self-contained multiple-disabilities classroom. I am married to my high school sweetheart :) We have three rescue dogs. I love going to movies and being with my family.

My philosophy for teaching is to provide a welcoming and loving learning environment. This will allow students to feel comfortable sharing their ideas and step out of their box. I believe by ensuring this type of environment, my students will show great progress!

This year we will focus on increasing our skills in various subjects, including learning different techniques and strategies to help regulate and maintain our emotional state so that we may become the most successful adults possible. My goal is to create a community of learners where we set goals and work together as a team to ensure we are ALL successful. Because of that, I believe that communication between home, school, and student is crucial in meeting the goals we set forth this year. I hope that you will communicate with me regularly by phone or email, as I look to you as a partner in your child's educational success. In addition to our communication, I will also keep in close contact with your child’s homeroom teacher to ensure that we are meeting their needs in all settings.

I look forward to building a relationship with you and your child throughout this school year and thus providing the best education that we are capable of giving. Thank you so much for allowing me to teach your child. If you need to contact me, please feel free to leave me a voicemail at 623-445-4343 or preferably by email heather.gustafson@dvusd.org

Sincerely,

Heather Gustafson
